League Provides Pro/Con Guide On Amendments for FL Voters
August 17, 2010
Just Released to Media: The League of Women Voters of Florida today released its Pro/Con Guide on the Amendments to the media across Florida to help inform and educate voters. Included in the Guide is the number of the Amendment, the exact language on the ballot, the Amendment sponsor(s), background information on the issue, and the list of pro's and con's of voting for or against it.
"This November Florida voters may have to navigate as many as ten complex ballot amendments," states Deirdre Macnab, President of the League of Women Voters of Florida. "Their choices will have a major impact on everything from class size to property taxes, so we provide this guide, as we do every election, to help with voter education on these complicated, yet important issues. It is part of our campaign to make "Democracy Easy"and help Florida's citizens cast an informed vote."

Moving Hillsborough Forward Campaignwill launch our television education campaign on local area cable. If you don't see it on your TV you can see it here. click here Here are five key message points that we are focused on this month: 1. After 25 years without a plan, our transportation system is now ranked dead last for commuters (Forbes, 2/16/2010) 2. After years of discussion, planning, public hearings, and research, a plan is finally on the table, one that includes roads, buses, light rail, pedestrian improvements and bike-lanes. 3. This plan will create tens of thousands of new jobs, make our community more attractive for business investment, and provide more mobility and choices - especially for those who right now have little or none. 4. This plan is already supported all over the county and by a diverse group of stakeholders, including both democrats and republicans as well as groups representing students, businesses, environmentalists, labor, construction, and developers. 5. We want people to know that they have the opportunity to decide what they want for their future, whether they want to keep their tax dollars here instead of sending them to other communities, if they want more jobs and more choices, or if they want to continue on without a plan, and continue to suffer from increased congestion and a lack of options. ________________________________________________________________
